January Reads

February 2, 2017

January was a busy month but I still managed to read three great middle grade books by three very talented authors. If you are looking for something new to add to your TBR pile, I highly recommend you check one of these out!

First up is Impyrium by Henry Neff. This book is the first in a new fantasy series, but fans of Neff’s Tapestry series may recognize the world. Impyrium starts off a little darker than Tapestry and has some more adult(ish) themes, however, for the upper middle grade fantasy reader this magical

book is a great choice.

Next was Foxheart by Claire Legrand. The book is written so beautifully, and the world she has constructed is so vivid. I was brought to tears at least once during reading and Legrand does an excellent job of making you care about a main character that, frankly, I didn’t really like that much. And while I wished she were just a little more likeable, I would still recommend Foxheart as a lovely fantasy about friendship and choices.

Finally, I checked out Three Times Lucky by Sheila Turnage on the recommendation of a writer friend. Guys, this contemporary mystery sucked me in and I couldn’t put it down. It is so funny, and there is so much heart. The characters are so well written. I just can’t say enough good things about this book.
